19177 Scapolite,
Dk Intense Pinkish Red, 4.86 cts split ended keystone brilliant cut measuring 11.1x 11.0x8.0 mm, eye clean, from Tanzania. We first saw the rough this gem was cut from late last year and were impressed by the intense color down the C axis of the crystal which can only be captured when orienting the gem with the C axis perpendicular to the table. As a result the recovery when cutting the gem is quite low, however, the color of the finished gems is well worth the loss. This cut is an original pattern by John.
